The mysterious veil has been lifted. Details of the much talked about revenue sharing plan have finally emerged and….I’m actually not against it. Recap: WASHINGTON 76 v. Stanford 63
Great performance leads to great win. Today’s performance by this UW Husky team was probably one their best of the year. They mixed in some fast break offense, solid defense, minimal mental lapses, and the surprising effectiveness of a football player. The game was close in the opening moments of the second half, but UW used a 20-3 run to blow the game wide open. Playing without sharp shooter C.J. Wilcox for the third straight game, Coach Lorenzo Romar turned to UW freshmen starting tight end Austin Sefarian-Jenkins for some quality minutes in an already short rotation. Without Wilcox, Romar has really shortened his rotation to basically 7 players. Since Shawn Kemp Jr. and Martin Breunig are basically contributing nothing, Sefarian-Jenkins’ 16 minutes and one shot was by far better than any performance from Kemp Jr. and Breunig. There are times that Kemp Jr. looks like he’s never played basketball, and it’s kind of true since he missed two years of high school basketball. Breunig can’t stay out of foul trouble nor make a lay-up. So Sefarian-Jenkins play was a welcomed sight. Even though he didn’t score, he grabbed 7 rebounds and played very good defense. The football roster lists Sefarian-Jenkins at 6’6” and weighs 258 pounds, but he may weigh more than that. Sefarian-Jenkins is a pretty big guy. But just like on the football field, Sefarian-Jenkins is very mobile and has nice agility. He was quick on his defensive rotations and was able to stay in front of Stanford players and he set several solid screens. I highly doubt Aaron Bright is going to run over Sefarian-Jenkins. By playing so effective, Aziz N’Diaye was able to a lot of rest on the best. N’Diaye only played 18 minutes but he when he was in he was too big for the Stanford front court to handle.
