“Martell Webster, That Hair Style Ain’t Helping”
Dunks aren’t worth 3 points player.

It was more good than bad. There were moments where the Huskies were running and gunning like the successful Huskies of the past. The three’s were dropping. Guys were driving to the basket. Defense was solid. Terrence Ross, who usually struggles in the 1st half, was playing really well. Aziz N’Diaye was involved in the offense early. C.J. Wilcox’s jumper was working. The Huskies were able to run and that led to the halftime score of 44-26. Though the game was never really in doubt, the Huskies still let their guard down and reverted back to their bad habits that have made this season hard to watch.

The Huskies finally came out and played with some heart, again after no-showing in a previous game. This is just how the team has been all year. It was a tough & physical game for both teams. At times they seemed to mirror each other. One team would go in a funk and the other would go on a mini-streak. You would get 5 minutes of good basketball, and then it would turn into 5 minutes of ugliness. It was a nice bounce back performance from the Huskies after they got destroyed at Oregon on Thursday. This was a win they had to have to stay in contention for the Pac-12 title. Oregon State probably would’ve won this game if they made their free throws. They shot 16-26 for 61.5%. UW who has struggles the whole year from the line shot 24-35 for 68.6% and iced the game at the line to put away the Beavers. Oregon State played good enough to win; they had 4 players in double figures. Led by Jared Cunningham’s 23, OSU outplayed the Huskies but they made too many mistakes at inopportune times. The Huskies were able to capitalize on their chances and make some big shots down the stretch. Looking at the stats everything is pretty even. The Beavers shot better, had more assists, but were outrebounded.

The 2011-2012 Washington Men’s team continues to drive me crazy. The turnovers have to STOP!!! Between UW’s point guards, Tony Wroten and Abdul Gaddy, they had 9 turnovers. I would say 5 were unforced, just throwing the ball away to no one. Coach Lorenzo Romar is really testing my faith in his coaching ability. He probably knows that this team is neither his best nor deepest. So he might just be deciding to win or lose with his best 7 and live with their mistakes. But there comes a point where he has to pull these guys out of the game and let them know they have to take care of the ball. After turnovers, it seems like the players think its no big deal. Why should they? They’re not going to get pulled from the game. They’re probably not going to be running in practice to save their legs for the games. Just pull Wroten out for 2 minutes and put Hikeem Stewart in. Wroten was laboring the whole game with a leg injury. Then late in the 1st half, he was inadvertently kicked in the knee by one of the Wear twins looking like he hyper-extended it a little. But Romar still kept him in the game. Wroten was still able to score 13 points and shot an amazing 5-5 from the line. But the 2 assists to 5 turnovers was not good. Also I finally saw Wroten attempt 2 shots with his right hand! He made one and blew a wide open lay-up. His oft-hand is still awful. When UW made their run Wroten was out of the game, which was the right call. I love Wroten, but there are times where I think he hurts the team more than helps and Romar needs to recognize those times and get him out of the game.

Fairly limited, so you better have your finger on F5 and a cable connection ready. Niketown Seattle is NOT getting these.

I thought this was it. It was going to be this game. Nationally televised. Chance to take the top spot in the Pac-12 conference standings. Double digit lead dropping to 2. This was finally going to be the game that horrendous free throw shooting was finally going to cost the Washington Huskies a game. It was unbelievably bad. As a team the Huskies shot just 44% (7-16). The Arizona Wildcats on the other were 21-29 good for 72%. Terrence Ross 74%, didn’t get it done. C.J. Wilcox 91%, missed the frontend of a 1 and 1 with a chance to put the Huskies up 5 with :22 seconds left. Aziz N’Diaye 38%, forget about it. This was a game the Huskies should’ve easily put away. They were down at halftime 32-29, but really should’ve been 30-29 since there was basket interference by Arizona that wasn’t called. Side note, it’s amazing how officials miss easy calls, but when they have no clear view of a play they go ahead and blow their whistle anyways on fouls. Again UW coach Lorenzo Romar continued with his 7-man rotation and several of those players stepped up big time in key moments. Romar’s use of only 7 players almost cost them, being that four Husky players were in foul trouble with 4 fouls each. Abdul Gaddy picked up his 4th foul with still 10 minutes left in the game. How bad were things going to look when Hikeem Stewart would have to come in the game cold and try to help facilitate a win on the road against Arizona? I’m seriously starting to have issues with Romar’s moves and coaching ability. His teams continue to be poor free throw shooters. Obviously whatever they’re doing in practice is clearly not working.
